Using Road to IELTS in the classroom

by | 7 May 2021

We previously looked at how teachers at Sciences Po, a leading university in France, dedicate class time to showing students how Road to IELTS functions. Students are then expected to use the program independently, with regular catch-up sessions with tutors. But what if you want to use the program in class as part of your IELTS preparation course?

We invited Adam Forrester, a specialist in IT project management and massive open online courses (MOOCs), to come up with three quick lesson plans for class activities preparing students for IELTS Speaking. Adam focused on a setup where a teacher has a single computer in class with a projector. He also assumes that the teacher has access to a printer and/or photocopier.

Click to download the activity sheets:

  1. Understanding what you have to do in IELTS Speaking
  2. Answering questions in Speaking Part 1
  3. What to say when you don’t understand the question

The activities range from 15 to 30 minutes and include a range of interactions including presentations, pair work, group work and worksheets.

Please use these classroom activities — and let us know how you get on!

“I’m a busy teacher and we don’t run IELTS classes…”, which suggests a four-step process that will provide a structure for the students’ work, leaving the teachers free to guide and advise.
